I have a challange for all the masquerade/fnl/skit performers at cons. Do a dramatic skit. Prove to me that the fandom isn't just here for sex and comedy.
However, I think that Super Jayhawk did a relatively dramatic one at FC2004? I'm not entirely sure, I missed it on my last run to the art show to make sure I won a piece or two, but from what I heard his wasn't solely comedy.
Not that there's anything wrong with sex and comedy. ^_^ But that's still a great idea... Maybe if we ever do actually organize that many-person entourage of Alice in Wonderland fetish outfits... ;)
Would that I had a costume. I would love to make the act of "putting on a costume and becoming a different person" into an actual Masquerade skit. Of course, my immediate feeling is that it would go totally unrecognized. Dogs and card tricks and all that. I already have enough trouble feeling underappreciated, being a writer in a mostly-visual fandom. I don't need to fuel it by doing something dramatic in the face of all the crappy skits.
I'm not sure I'm the cat to prove that - the last thing I want at a con is drama - I'm pretty happy indulging in sex and comedy and little else at con time. I think our skit last year was pretty serious at least for Dex. It was sort of a coming home for him in that he completed a big goal in his life - making his uncle proud by completing that trick.
For me though, there's time enough for drama and sadness when the con is over - Sorry :(
I question wheither highbrow fursuit theatre will actually manage to keep an audience at a con or not - not to say furries aren't capable of being intellectual or that they don't enjoy a tragedy as much as a comedy, but the con audience might not be right for it.
Nonetheless, I'd certainly go (or even participate).
Well, A-kon also had it's share of skits, but most of them were.. you can probably guess.. comedy. Never been to any fur cons, but I'd definately try for something Webber ala' Phantom of the Opera. :D
*chuckles* Since it seems quite likely that the days of my being able to do the skit I had envisioned with my last partner will likely not return for the foreseeable future, might as well talk about it here, as it's somewhat relevant.
I too had a huge problem with the fursuiting for comedy/arousal/intercourse only. As such, I actually had a notion whereby I, and my partner, would both be on stage, doing a more romantic, asexual pursuit/courting notion. One (likely him in a stretch velvet or spandex 'fursuit' or perhaps just body painted) is simply sitting at a table, reading and sipping at 'something'. He looks lonely, lost, sad. The other (likely me, just wearing a very nice suit and not as a fur at all), arrives, and sits nearby having the same paper, and something similar to drink. Eyes meet, and both simply stare for a few moments. Then, slowly, both rise, and embrace, the embrace turns into a slow dance, either Tango or other ballroom style, with the lights going into color gel sequences, and a classical piece playing in the background. The more we dance, the more relaxed and intimate we seem to get, but then, the music suddenly ends, and the partner gives a single, brief kiss on the cheek, and departs. The business suited one takes a seat, watching him go, and returns to reading, shaking his head in sorrow and loss.
