As a decently long-time suiter, I do think I hold a rather relaxed view of things. I generally try to stay in suit at cons and things, though if I'm just at home, the head rarely stays on. Its just too warm and there's no one to dress up for, so to speak.
I think the thing to remember is that as it grows, the fursuiting community becomes as fragmented as the fandom in general, several groups trying different things, generations clashing, etc. There's no longer one right way to fursuit, and very few wrong ways.
Now I think in spite of this whole drama, all you've done is expressed your own opinion, and thats never a bad thing. You're expressing concern, not shoving it in peoples' faces like certain other individuals. And for that, I thank you.
Things change over time. They grow and adapt and we grow with them. Let the post-CSI furs run around with their heads off. Play on it in character. Make it fun. And know that the old-timers will still be right beside you, heads firmly on and stopwatches running. ;)

Date: 2007-12-08 08:09 pm (UTC)Everyone has their way of doing things. The current drama over "OMGWTFFURSUITHEAD!" just makes me chuckle. There's no "one true way" of fursuiting... and if someone says there is, I'll laugh at them the way I do those same one true way-ers in teh BDSM community.
There's a million flavors of fursuiting sundae. I'll enjoy mine, you enjoy yours, and sometimes we can enjoy each other's. 'nuff said. :)

Date: 2007-12-08 11:52 pm (UTC)The rules have changed sense the days of long ago. Now that you can buy a fursuit or build one yourself, there are no more "rules" to follow. I think the biggest reaction I've seen is from old-school hard core people who have been doing fursuiting sense the beginning and yes, they are upset, but it's not the same anymore.
It's hard to be totally upset when there wasn't really any firm established rules either. Yes, taking your head off was bad, but there wasn't any punishment for it. No one was going to send you to jail for taking your head off in public and now that some has been 'caught' doing it, everyone is up in arms about it.
Deal with it people :)
