Okay, definite progress made! After a bit of fighting to get NTFS support working I have access to all my windows drives as well as the house server. Pidgin is compiled and running, and the video settings are locked in, giving me proper resolution (1440x900) on both monitors (soon to go to three.)

I'm now running KDE, which I honestly like better than Gnome. I've gotten that all configured as well. Sound works fantastically, and Linux understands my 5.1 sound setup. Amarok has learned my music collection, and I have hardware graphics support running. Glxgears is giving me 15,700fps.

But the best thing so far is SecondLife. I had to install the ia32 libs to get it to work, since I'm on AMD64, but once those were installed it came up cleanly. There's still a bit of glitching in the audio when playing a stream, but the impressive part is I'm wearing a prim heavy avatar currently. In windows, running the latest NGO HQ drivers, I get 11-15fps when looking at this avatar. In linux, I'm holding at 75fps. So far the client is rock solid.

Honestly? I think I can pull off this switch. Other than a few annoying things, like Hamachi refusing to run (though I'll try it again now that ia32-libs are installed), its working wonderfully. I'm still finding programs I need to install, and I haven't delved into Wine territory yet, or getting Adobe CS3 working. But for now, I'm finding things to be just working.

Desktop Linux is close. Very close.

So, I haven't switched back. This is the first post actually being made within Linux (the others were from my laptop) and I'm quite happy. I have all my bookmarks and cookies imported from Windows, and I have all my Firefox plugins set up.

I think I may have broken Amarok with the size of my music collection. I may have to switch it over to full Mysql instead of sqlite. Not a big deal. I got some of the audio glitches worked out, though SL still has issues with audio playback. I have Amarok playing Lt3M no problem now. I still need to install MythFrontend.

I have Automatix installed now, and its given me fun things like Wine and media codecs. I haven't expiramented with Wine yet, but thats coming up soon. I'm gonna play with GIMP for a bit, but honestly I'm gonna be installing Photoshop CS3.

Oh and Kahn got Steam working on her machine, so I'll hafta try that on mine! Possible HL2 support! Yes I'll be trying for Bioshock and TF2 as well ;>

I'm still working out an Outlook replacement. Kontact tends to crash on me, and I haven't really troubleshooted it.

I also need to test video playback.

Okay thats it for now!

Heroes Season 2 Episode 1 was awesome. Torrent encoding now. That is all.
