Ya there's some debate as to whether it was stolen or he just pocketed it mid-greeting. It does vanish halfway through the video though.

Its actually a simple slight of hand to remove a watch, many stage magicians do it as part of their "Up Close" show. And if the "mark" is -very- distracted like he was, its even easier.

How? If people are grabbing at you, and if I grip your arm right near your wristwatch, you won't notice me grabbing the band and tightening it enough to pop the buckle. A pair of pulls in the right direction, and the band comes free, you have a watch. Whoever did it, went for the watch on purpose.

Watch the video above and pay attention at the 3:11-3:07 remaining time span. You can almost watch it happen.

The funny, is in the coverup of it. He should have just come out and said "Damn, that was real slick... I'm a potato."
