Was driving home tonight and going down very windy road called Bear Creek Rd. Started to come around a corner going moderately fast but not recklessly so, when a black mitsubishi ricemobile comes around the corner the other direction..

..and drifts into my lane..

I'm thankful for my instinctual driving.. I avoided hitting him at all.. It meant going around him on the outside, spinning out and hitting a tree, but I didn't have a headon at high speed on a mountain road with no cell signal.. =P

So a broken headlight, smashed bumper, front fender, bent hood, rear fender, and one guard rail later, I managed to drive myself home..

I also got a pulled muscle in my leg from it, but am otherwise alright.. no whiplash or anything, and not TOO major damage to the car..

The amusing part was, I got home to find my roommates (who're fire fighters) were out on a fire call.. to go rescue me.. =P

I could really have done without this, but at least I have the weekend off..

Augh! I'm glad you made it through (mostly) unscathed. Fucking ricers!

PERRO? DO YOU HEAR ME? FUCKING RICERS!

*rapes Perro's ear, 'cause now he's all hot and bothered, thinking about fucking ricers. Oooh, baaaby.*

Ack! We're glad you're ok.

So you will probably be laying low this weekend? We'll drink a toast to your health.

Jeeze. Welcome back to California, did you even make it a month before running across a fucktard up there? *Scuse me* Fucktardnichiwahhhhhh

Woulda been better off taking the head on! It would've kept him from escaping, he would've been on the wrong side of the road and you've got the larger vehicle. All you had to do was bail out through the door before impact! "Quickly Indy! The door is closing!"

In all seriousness though. That sucks ass. I may drive like an idiot through those hills but *not* to the point that I'm going to come into oncoming lanes. That's just suicidal driving, and I'm not out to kill myself let alone anyone else. I hope for the ricer's sake the cops bust him before a tree and a healthy dose of physics stops him the hard way.

When I hit a guy who cut me off on Santa Cruz, the Highway Patrol guy said that hitting him instead of the median was a good choice - as it got me off the road safely, out of traffic... And also the other guy got to pay for his recklessness.

I was worried it'd come back to haunt me, but oddly enough, the guy never placed a claim against us.

Holy shit man! You get the plates for that fuck? They'd be getting my car repair/potential medical bills, ASAP. :P

Agreed... you get his plates?
There's no excuse for reckless driving. At least here in SoCal, the canyonrunners know to take it easy if they see another car, much less a civilian, and one oncoming... and never to double-lane without spotters.

I'm torn between agreeing that you should have hit the fuckwit, and going on the forums to see if anyone there is willing to own up; assuming it was a DSM, and not an Evo.

...I'm going to guess Evo. It'd say noodle around on the Forums anyways though, see if it's a Mitsu-lover regardless that might frequent there.

Though considering it sounds like Inaki got rolling again very quickly, I'm going to guess the fuckwit was the one that called in the accident, myself.

The important thing is that you're OK!

Actually the tree I hit was in the front yard of the fire chief =P I got rolling again quickly enough that I never actually saw anyone, but Smash and Dragon came home after I got back, saying "You didn't wreck on Bear Creek did you? Cause we couldn't find the car."

As for getting plates, unfortunately no.. he didn't even stop.. just kept going. It happened way too fast and I still think there's nothing I could have done (also, the response time from the fire dept would have been bad had it been a headon. I wouldn't have walked away so unscathed. I've felt airbags before.)

I'm still considering better drivers training though, if I'm gonna continue to drive these roads. I'm good, but not as good as I could be, and you can never have too much training on something.

...I think I'm gonna hold off on the motorcycle for a bit =P

I'll have to poke you the next time a good open track day comes up. They don't restrict what kind of vehicle you can drive on the track usually. Every track day I go to not only provides instructor time in your vehicle, but some of them won't even let you on the track without an instructor. They'll show you the limits of your car and I guarantee you will skid out of control at least a few times. The upside to that is it teaches you how to react aside from just freaking out. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shaking the first time I 180ed off a track at speed. I had to head back to the pits and walk around for a while to catch my breath on that one. Most track days are only about $200 but you get about an hour of seat time with it and tons of useful instruction.

That's not even getting into the fact it's just a hell of a lot of fun. ;)

This is why you and me need to design a proper PDR (personal Data recorder) to elimiate those nasty "did you see what his license was?" moments. Both for cars and people. lets go get investment capital from insurance companies.

Yipe! I'm terribly sorry that you had the (small) crash.

I'm very, very glad that you turned out okay.
